Just wait until the the economy to continue softening, business travel gets axed and leisure travel falls of a cliff. Personally I think '08 is going to be a "banner year" for promotions. SPG hasn't had to resort to promos to keep the rooms full, they've only had to offer some promotions to keep us somewhat pacified.
Interesting. A friend and I were talking about this very thing tonight (he was trying to find a room <500 per night in New York City next week. There has been record occupancy rates at hotels (some reports have stated that they are at pre-9/11 occupancy) so why would they have to resort to promos? Also, since EMEA and Asia-Pac economies are doing well I don't see it "softening" soon.
Also, I'm with others who say that the double stays/extra points promo offered this last quarter has been excellent.
