Interlining baggage - is there a maximum number of segments?

Hello everyone,

I tried a search on this, but could not find anything in this direction, though I'm certain this question has been asked at some point. I was probably just using the wrong keywords.

Anyway, my question is this:

I have a *A award itinerary coming up in which it will take me three flights on three different airlines to get from FRA to SIN (due to miserable availability in C to SE Asia when you book two months out, I am flying FRA-ATH-BKK-SIN on LH, TG, SQ). I'm currently considering continuing to Australia on QF on a revenue ticket the same day I arrive in SIN. It would be nice if my bags could be checked through all the way. I currently have a choice between a badly-timed non-stop or a connecting itinerary which will get me to my destination 2 hours earlier and cut my layover in SIN by about 5 hours.

Now for the €16000 question - is it possible to check bags in for 4 segments at a time? What about 5 segments? And for future reference, is there a maximum to how many segments you can line up? The most I've ever seen is three, but that seems rather limited, I could think of a number of itineraries that would require a lot more, no matter how you route them.

Thanks for any and all replies!
