the reason I was asking about EXP upgrades was that my trip was turning into a family vacation and my cousin is EXP so I was counting on latching onto his status for a companion upgrade.
Yes, but even EXP rarely receive op-ups. Go ahead and link your PNR to his. I was about to say it can't hurt - but actually it could hurt his chances. If you/family link to his status and the GA only needs to one add'l seat, I suspect they'll contact the EXP traveling alone.
