The FLounge is definitely open. I t was very quiet when I was there in the afternoon. There is minimal traffic with just BA at 3ish, 5ish, and then later when the QF flights start to take shape.
The food selection was very good and the chef was always out tidying things and replacing food items. The bar is self serve – so free pour and the champagne was Moet NV.
The lounge is divided into 3 areas with the giant plasma blaring away at the far end with American football . There is some nice seating there with recliners, footstools and leather seats. The bar/dining are in the middle has table seating for chowing down and lounge style seating for snacking. The other area is quieter and has the computer stations (9) I counted and lots of magazines. It was great to see a Saturday SMH!
Interestingly enough all the computers have QF wallpaper and homepage. I wonder if the airlines take turn in displaying their own colours. The computers are slow and don’t even try posting to FT as I tried as it just times out. Surfing is OK but I’m used to much better speeds with Telstra 3G.
Washrooms are very nice with Molten and Brown products. I tried the shower and a word of warning; the door to the shower opens directly into the J lounge and I was taken aback at the sight of all these people sitting around. There is a staff member at a desk on the other side of the door and she thought she had scared me. I said no I was looking for a shower and didn’t anticipate the scene before me. It was pretty funny really.
The showers are good although the water temperature, even at the highest setting could hardly be described as hot and isn’t that what we all crave when travelling; I made a comment as such. Again, M&B products are the potions of choice and very nice they are too. I wonder though if this is a BA instigation and given the switch to Ennis, they might change.
In all, it is a far cry from the previous offering. It doesn’t come near the Flounge of SYD/MEL, Concorde Lounge or CX Wing – at least though it is finally of a standard that is acceptable to OW elites.
