Ever since my laptop turned itself on in my laptop bag when it was in standby mode, I have used hibernate. The case actually got hot enough to warp and I definitely felt the heat when I picked up my bag out of the overhead. This was a Dell 9400.

I have never had any trouble with hibernate and I am usually back in business doing work in about a minute after pressing the power button.
