Yes, and also I don't think gold is really that necessary anyway. Having some kind of lounge access is the main thing, and also being silver you stand a better chance of an OP up to WT+ which almost always happens to me when the flight is full. That's still a nice perk in itself.!
If you're in the unfortunate position of doing a lot of longhaul whY, the most useful perk is the advance seat selection which is almost the same for Silvers and Golds. It means you are essentially guaranteed an exit row seat, which (at least if you're tall) makes a massive difference to your level of comfort.
I'm not sue the OP really has that much to compain about. Being Silver puts him ahead of 90%+ of Y passengers, with quite a string of useful benefits. At least, I think the target of his complaint should be his cruel company much more than BAEC.
