I use hibernate on my X60. The computer is really off, it uses the same amount of battery as if you turn it off (virtually none) and it starts up very fast without a reboot. It takes 30 seconds from pushing the power on button until the login screen comes on, and then maybe another 30 seconds from typing in my password until the computer is fully awake.
