I really find it strange too, since some flights that are operated by 744s in Economy Class don't have AVOD at all, especially the configurations that have the New SkySleeper Solo seats.

JAL apparently doesn't have the finances to revamp their entertainment system to make it consistent fleet-wide. Besides, even their upcoming for 2008/09 new First Class & Executive Class seats are likely only to be offered in their long-haul 777 fleet. Even if JAL intends to operate 744s beyond 2010, they need consistency throughout to maintain its place in the market. JAL is usually about a year or two behind compared to Cathay Pacific when it comes to product development and implementation.
