I would try to postpone over the phone for the Monday following when your MR would end. If they will not allow you to do that, they will probably allow you to show up on the day of your summons and postpone in person. That's what they allow us to do in LA County. The good news is that if you show up and postpone in person, you're usually out of there by 9 or 9:30, freeing up the afternoon to begin the MR! Take a seat close to the window, so you can be first in line for the "postponements."

Worst case scenario: If your husband is absolutely stuck, you can still go on the MR to secure 1K for yourself. No sense in both of you having to forfeit 1K status for the entire year!
