I don't think I've ever had an update not clear, so I don't know. I thought I've read about people doing that here, who were not UGS. I was just posting what I (thought I) knew...
In my latest case, it was LGA-ORD-LHR... They told me that if I flew F using the SWU to ORD (which had cleared), it didn't matter what happened with ORD-LHR...the SWU would be gone. After a lot of back-and-forth at the check-in desk, they allowed me to "move" the SWU to cover the ORD-LHR leg only, then take 500-mile certs for the short hop. The TATL leg did clear, but they wouldn't give the certs back. It was no big deal -- just 2 e500s -- but the principle of the thing was annoying.
