I could imagine this on business-travel heavy short-haul segments (ORD-LGA, ORD-DCA, SFO-LAX). People travel these routes frequently and would be willing to pay a little extra of the comfort of no middle seats and faster boarding/deplaning. Also, the increased utilization would help more on shorter routes.
