I made an award reservation for Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort, the first HHonors award that I've booked online. I don't believe that I had to answer any box along the way that asked me if I wanted to show secure information.
The email confirmations listed in my Inbox from Doubletree and Hilton HHonors are both in red with a shield beside them. I did not receive any other email in connection with the reservation. They are in my Inbox, not my Junk E-mail. When I opened them, I got, "Windows Mail thinks this message is suspicious and has blocked it. Images and links have been blocked for your safety. If you think this mail is not fraudulent, use the unblock button to access it."
Is this a big deal or benign? Is it common? With confirmations from HHonors?
I know the difference between phishing and spam, and my computer handles spam differently. I know that (legit) businesses, Hilton included, place cookies, files and other goodies on us, and that they're more interested in our click-ins and click-outs than we are. And before someone says to re-set my phishing filter, this is the first time I have gotten such a warning, ever, so I don't think it's overly sensitive.
I searched FT. There was a June 2005 Phishing thread, actually in the HHonors forum, but it didn't address this specifically, nor did others. The Hilton link given there discusses email that purports to be from Hilton. But again, it doesn't talk about email that's (I'm pretty sure) from Hilton itself that gets red flagged.
Besides my questions, I'm sharing this as a data point, in case there are others. And I'll send the emails on to
[email protected] per the Hilton link.
Thoughts?
Thank you.
