I always wonder why folks stay in small hotel rooms (with noise, interruptions, etc.) when they could get a nice condo (with privacy, full kitchen, room to stretch out, and fewer people at the pool) for the same (or less) price. Is it the on site restaurants? Location (if upscale and on the beach?)? Ease of arranging a hotel room?
We do both, b/c they're both different experiences.
If we have the kids....we rent condos and/or houses, b/c for the same price, we get space enough for all of us, my wife and I have our own private master bedroom, and we usually eat b-fast in the condo every day, which saves money when there are 5 of us (3 kids).
If we don't have kids...we like the nice hotels, with the convenience of the restaurants, maid service, and usually better locations.
