There is often a decent chance you will be upgraded anyway depending on route/ time, but more importantly, Golds and higher can book Emergency seats. These seats almost always seem to be available until the 24 hour mark. The Emergency seats are as good as any E+, no? This year, I've sat in CO's Y class Emergency seats once (EWR-LAS), and it was just fine as for leg room. And I am 6'2".

I am not an airline apologist, believe me, and I wonder if I am missing something about the whole issue.
If you lived on the west coast and are a frequent business traveler, you would be in need of a total hip replacement (or a different airline). The upgrades are virtually non-existent, and the exit rows are gone months out sometimes. If you have a last-minute trip, you are up the creek.

It is amazing to me how insistent CO is about NOT addressing this. There are often several Plats on full Y's from the West Coast to EWR. That is about 25-cents revenue per available seat mile (more than a 50% profit for CO)...for virtually no service (certainly nothing special for the price paid). I'm surprised LK doesn't charge for the view of your fellow passengers' butts. If you're in row 20-25 and higher on the 737, there is a lavatory line in your face for 80% of the trip. But, they're constantly improving their products and services, both in the air and on the ground!
