When a Platinums or Gold purchases tickets within 48 hours of departure, the exit rows often already have been reserved by other travelers. Also, on the 735's, 733's, and 73G's, there are only two exit row seats that have additional legroom (14A/F). Add to that the fact that four of the six bulkhead seats on those aircraft (5A-D) are blocked from advance seat assignment, and it is easy to see how Plats and Golds often end up in standard coach seats.
