AA pilots love to game the system and they will intentionally try and bid themselves into these situations so they can get extra days off.

You could make a lot of money at Eagle bidding into a conflict, getting removed from most of the flying and still get paid for it
So, basically, the pilots are no different from many of us FTers trying to game the system to our advantage. Gotta love it
