I was thinking more along the lines of IFE and actual seat dimensions. As the 787 is 15 inches wider than an A330 the seating will be very similar. But armrest configuration isn't won't be as good with 3-3-3.
Besides, on a 2-4-2 config., you're no more that one seat from an aisle, but with a 3-3-3, the windows are two seats away from the aisle.
