I got dinged on this rule late last year. I was running quite late and was extra grumpy that day, so I elected to get into a shouting match with the security checkpoint guard. I eventually retreated to the UA checkin counter where they late checked my third stick. I then transported the other two through security.

I guess they have to draw the line somewhere or someone (like me) would try to take his entire set (sans bag) onboard.
