Ouch! I've just demonstrated that outside of my first trip to Japan I never stay in single rooms (with one bed). When I stayed at the Kyoto Garden hotel both my parents and myself and my husband opted for the semi-doubles - seemed quite spacious compared to other places I'd been to (semi-double rooms at the APA chain in Tokyo, for instance, can be considerably smaller)

To be honest, I couldn't find a straightforward link to a room plan showing a true single room (with one 'single' bed rather than one semi-double).

Out of that google search a surprising amount of them are semi-doubles.
