I'm in the process of booking a trip from ORD to HKG via NRT b/c that was the only AA metal connection that comes up when you book by price and schedule. I didn't even think about PVG until I read the boards. When I manually search the flights with a stop in PVG I get the routing ORD-PVG-HKG-PVG-ORD for pretty much the same price. The difference being the times are more to my liking and C4 is available on the ORD-PVG as opposed to C0 on ORD-NRT (trying for Evip). My questions:

1. Do I need a visa to transit through PVG?
2. Anyone have advice as to which routing they like better? The option through NRT keeps me on AA codeshares all the way whereas the PVG option uses CX codehare of Dragonair in M class which I don't think earns miles for AA, is that correct?

Thanks,
You shoiuld transfer in Tokyo (NRT) ithey are ste up for it. No Immigration checks. PVG is just not set up for transfers. It is very hard at PVG and can take a couple hours as u must go through arrival immigration and arrival customs and re-chek in at the main airline counter and go through departure immigration and customs. Good luck if you have checked baggage. Use NRT.
