Ft Myers area does have Sanibel/Captiva, two pretty little islands which offer great kayaking and nature watching, as well as Cayo Costo (sp?) just above them, which has no inhabitants but is all nature park. Your stay on Marco would be much nicer than in the middle of Ft. Myers or Naples, but the islands are great places to visit, even if you don't end up staying there.
