I too had the same problem for about 10 days. It took 4 or 5 phone calls to password support (over several days) to get the straight scoop and my account back on line. Evidently, while performing a "routine" upgrade they accidently trashed the security (i.e., password) system database. They were able to get most password and accounts reconnected after about a week, however several (probably meaning thousands) of us were unable to be re-established directly without more detailed work with the database. However, the last word I got when I was finally able to get back into the system was that the system could (or would) now only issue temporary passwords to those whose accounts had been re-established. Once given that new password, you then need to put in a new password (it could be your old one - it doesn't matter). So as I understand it now, if password support can issue a temporary password for you to enter your account you should be able to reset a new password and things should be OK - at least that is how it worked for me. If they cannot issue a temporary password, then your account is still one that has not been reconnected so to speak.
Sorry to be such a rambling explanation, but hope it helps.
