This video has been around in the UK for a while, including the crew's ATC conversations. It happened to a Thomson 757 at Manchester, they got the engine failure as they rotated, the flame and backfiring were just a consequence of the bird carcass passing through the engine. They went off single engine to a nearby holding point for a while while everyone got in place, then came back. No need for an instant return. Passengers transferred to another aircraft, engine had to be changed.

Nice the way the First Officer said "Mayday Mayday Mayday" in a totally nonchalent voice as it happened. Of course, he'd done it 100 times before in the simulator.
