Linking PNR Numbers

I have a slight 'issue' and would love some input:

I know you can link separate PNR numbers together in certain cases, but I have the following situation:

I'm returning from Asia through LAX on a full-fare C ticket, and doing a stopover for a few days.

My girlfriend is coming out to LA to meet me, and we are returning home together on the same flights...She has no status with UA.

I tried using miles or a HK49, but the likely story applies--plenty of seats, no NF space available. I'm obviously confirmed in F, and she's in Y with a WL to F.

A non-elite flyer will have basically a -0- chance of upgrading on the LAX-ORD routing.

Is it possible to link the PNR's in this case, I've heard about doing it on a matching itinerary, but not a lot about a half of an itinerary.

Because I'm not waitlisting for anything, would that make a difference?

I know it doesn't, but shouldn't the fact that I'm on a full-fare F ticket carry some weight?
