I kind of agree with you...but with a caveat. My first series of HGI experiences was at either new properties, or properties with a total room overhaul recently completed.
I sort of expected every HGI to be just as nice - but was really disappointed the first time I stayed at a HGI which had not been fully renovated. I didn't realize the brand had been around for quite awhile and some of the properties were quite tired looking. It was a stark contrast to the first hotels - and a surprise discovery since I didn't do my homework first.
So...the moral to the story. HGI properties are great - just make sure you select a new or totally renovated one.
