Does anyone remember the TWA award that was probably the best award ever? (Randy Peterson has mentioned it numerous times.) Anyway, for 50,000 miles, you received a free First Class roundtrip to Europe PLUS an upgrade from the lowest coach fare to First Class. The upgrade could either be used by a companion or by yourself on a future flight.
Personally, I lost count of the number of these awards which I claimed. (I believe it was six of them.) Yes, those were the days!
