I've done both routes using SWUs with NC0 and C9, both had no problem, seats gettting released about a week prior to departure. HKG as others have mentioned is, IMO, a better transit airport (and you only have 3.5 hours left to get to SIN). Return trip is much more difficult on the upgrade, have only had luck once via HKG.
