The perk of access to OneWorld lounges internationally, when traveling onward/departing on a OW flight was mentioned. Also worth noting is that when traveling internationally as a Plat, you'll have access to AAdmirals Clubs on the day of departure as well. This also comes in really, really handy when originating/connecting flights in/from/thru the US get meesed up, and/or when travelling internationally from an airport where there's an AC, but no OW lounge to speak of or get to (EZE comes to mind).



Of course, getting a membership is cheaper at the Plat level vs. Gold, and would be a nice "flight insurance" policy for when things go awry, (weather, ATC, cancellations, etc...the AAngels are awesome).
