Why bother for a same day run? It's either sitting in the AC or terminal or sitting on two short flights and getting another 1000 EQP plus any bonuses. Just do the whole thing. You could try something clever like pretending to be sick (or claiming your "meeting" in AUS cancelled) but seems like a waste of time.
