I put a lot of value on my SPG points.

Unless you're really attracted to the idea of staying at the Westin, I'd suggest you go for Cash & Points at the Sheraton Miyako Tokyo.

The downside is that the award rooms are almost invariably twin rooms - not double/queen/king beds.

You might like to contact the hotel and see if there's any chance of them changing this for you - as you're Gold, it is possible that they might. Or see if you can upgrade yourself into one by 'paying' 1,500points a night extra.

Location wise, the Sheraton Miyako is not that far from the Westin, and is arguably more convenient for transport (there are two Metro stations within a 5 minute walk from the hotel and a very regular shuttle service (every 15 minutes) will get you to and from Meguro on the JR Yamanote line. The garden surrounding the Miyako is gorgeous and the lobby works very well as a social focal point for both guests and the locals... it has a wonderful and welcoming gentle buzz to it that I've not seen many other Tokyo hotels match.

I have no doubt that the Westin is a better hotel, but when you compare 2,800 points and $45 (or 7,000) with 12,000 points a night, I don't think anyone could convince me it's that much better.

The way I see it, at the moment you have 46k SPG. You could purchase 2k more and get 4 nights at the Westin (12k a night)

or

get 3 nights at the Westin Miyako Kyoto (30k) and 3 or 4 nights at the Westin Miyako Tokyo (8,400 or 11,200). Admittedly, you'd be 1,200 points short if you stayed at the Sheraton Miyako Tokyo for 4 nights and took the option to upgrade yourself.

And don't forget you have the option of getting the 5th night free at either the Westin Miyako Kyoto or the Sheraton Miyako Tokyo, giving you 5 nights at either for 40,000 points or 28,000. (Unfortunately, same promo doesn't work when getting nights through cash & points).

Anyway, that's just my take. I stayed at the Sheraton Miyako Tokyo for 3 nights earlier this month, it stood up fine in comparison to The Strings IC and a club level suite at the ANA Intercontinental. It's a decent hotel. I'd personally recommend getting an upgrade to a Superior room on floors 3 or 4 with views of the adjoining garden. The foliage is thick, lush and beautiful and it feels very private - higher up and you're being overlooked by neighbourhood condos.

I would advise you against the Le Meridien Pacific. Cramped rooms and extremely uncomfortable beds for those without 'real' status. The Tokyo Sheraton Miyako is a far better hotel, even if the Shinagawa location of the LMP is extremely convenient.
