Since your husband can get you an award trip, for instance, I fail to see what the problem is in using his miles? I've certainly never experienced any difficulty using my miles for others, including friends and family.
If I am somehow missing something here, if you feel the miles can best be used by transferring them into your account, rather than directing your energies into upset at hapless AA Customer Service agents why not write the executive offices and explain your request and rationale?

How I hate Advantage "customer service" - let me count the ways!!! My husband is totally disabled and will never be able to use the airmiles in his account. AA refuses to transfer other than via the 15,000 per year at $180 unless and until he has passed away. I paid the charge this week and can take another 15K per year at the same rate. Isn't it lovely that customer service puts the spouse in this position? Great people, wonderful service, compassionate to the max.
