I think you may be directing your hatred in the wrong direction. I don't believe that the customer service folks make the rules- they are just the ones that have to enforce them. If an exception were to be made in this case (and that certainly seems reasonable), it would have to come from "higher up." I have a feeling that even a compassionate customer service agent would not have the authority to simply transfer the miles free of charge between accounts.
On the flip side, I don't really see how transferring miles to your account is any way a compassion issue in this situation. The miles in hos account can certainly be used by you without any transfer or hassle.
