Agree completely.

The first time I got SSSSed, it was pointed out by the ticketing agent. "You have 'SSSS' on your boarding pass which means you'll get searched again at the gate. Once they search you, they won't let you wander away, so if you need to go to the restroom or anything make sure you do that in advance."

If there was any element of surprise (which is doubtful) it would have been destroyed by the heads-up.
