Your credit & ID cards are not going to set off the WTMD. So no, unless you have a large piece of metal in your wallet, never put it through the x-ray. And if you do have such a piece of metal, you might consider removing that verses dumping your entire wallet.
At DCA on Saturday, they were actually telling people not to remove keys, wallets, or coins "unless you happen to be carrying a roll of quarters in your pocket."
