(OT - Sort of ..) Champagne in checked baggage ?

As this is the forum par excellence in which to seek advice from the Champagne cognoscenti, I was wondering what the view is on putting a bottle in shorthaul checked baggage.

I seem to pick up odd bottles offered by hotels when I have no opportunity to drink them. They can't go in hand luggage so I usually leave them. It now occurs to me to ask (a little belatedly) whether anyone has successfully / unsuccessfully done this or whether pressurisation issues make it unwise.
