If I have lots of coins it sometimes beeps, sometimes not - depends on the sensitivity setting. Generally I'll remove wallet and put inside my carryon if I think I have enough coins to trigger. Otherwise it stays in my pocket.
Oh, and before starting a trip I do get rid of excess coinage.
