IME I havenever seen upgrade availabilty for the complete "direct" flight be available with no availabilty for the individual segments. Even if this is theoretically possible, the downsides of having each flight go to the DM list far outweigh the pssibility that the upgrade could clear.

IMO it is WAY better to hope for each segment to clear on its own merits.
