Ahhh...another disgruntlement about United's ticketing regulations! But here goes:
I made two first class award reservations on Mexicana (ORD-PVR). 60,000 miles each. I need to cancel them (can't go on the trip) so I called UA Int'l MP Award Desk. I take that back, I "redialed" them about 20 times until I could actually get a UA voice instead of a busy signal.
The CSR told me that I can cancel the tickets. It would cost $75 to put the 120,000 miles back into the account. (It's a lot of work for them, I know, so it's definitely worth the $75 fee!

) That's fine...but in making the reservation, I had to pay around $50 per ticket for taxes. (There's no such thing as a free lunch-- especially with UA.) Now, since I am technically CANCELING the reservation, doesn't it make sense that the amount in taxes I paid be refunded as well? The tax was paid on a ticket---a ticket that, after cancellation, no longer exists.
Any similar experiences? It's kind of fun to catch UA on their loopholes...
