Post Is it appropriate to tip a $20 to a really nice front desk CS?

We are in Austin staying at one of the Hilton hotel properties. The front desk CSR went out of his way to be nice to us ( my partner and I) .....giving us a very favorable unpublished rate, free parking and internet, and a room on the top floor with an incredible view.....We were planning to check out tomorrow and move to another Hilton property on an HH award (this stay tonight was unexpected... we thought we were going to be in the hill country one more night) but the service has been so extraordinary we canceled that reservation and plan on staying here a few more nights....anyway I was so pleased with the attention and friendliness of the front desk staff member who accomodated us I "palmed" him a $20 at check-in.... was this appropriate?
