For me, lifetime status with DL's program was not attractive (at least not at the 1MM level) to doggedly pursue compared to the competition's lifetime status programs. For someone who wants a lifetime opportunity for upgrades on domestic routes (and some shorter-haul-type international ones) and/or the remote (for most) possibility of lifetime top-tier status, that may be reason enough.
