It's not easy - the first time. It took me a while to get Lady JDiver to see the light - the first few upgrades made the difference, and now we both fly as EggSplats. She might not be caught dead on F, but she'd just about feel the same way to be stripped of her status (we both have fallback positions of life Platinum.)

It's very nice to acknowledge the help you have received from FlyerTalkers - there are too many generous and knowledgeable members who willingly share what they have learned with others to acknowledge individually, but you will undoubtedly achieve your goal and be rewarded
. IMO, flying Patinum is considerably better than Gold - even when I was Platinum, I received a few op ups (on other than AA,) better upgrades and of course, the lounge access on qualifying international itineraries.
