Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa, Stamford, CT [Master Thread]
Did a week here this month (October 07) and thought I'd post my observations for future FT'ers to use as reference.
Check-in was easy but the real "yankee" attitude showed in the front desk staff. Not a big deal-just get my key and go. I arrived 2 hours early than posted check-in and they were able to accommodate me just fine. Parking is $8 a day and as an inconvenience, they stamp your key card billfold as your parking validation so you have to keep track of that thing for your entire stay and flash it to the cashier upon exit. In/out privileges are included.
The rooms I thought were quite comfortable. They entire business renovations had been completed and the LG f lat screens in place. Turning the channels is rather slow with these flat screens but a small detail. Now, whoever submitted the plans to remodel the bathroom should be shot! Very nice marble countertops and tile flooring but the ventilation is horrible...your room will fog up with steam. Also, there are no shower doors....it is this big piece of glass that covers the shower only half way. So for you tall folks, if you extend the head of the shower all the way out, then water bounces off you and onto the tiled floor. I saw many the maid mopping and cleaning the floor because of water puddles.
Wake up calls arrived 5 minutes early, and housekeeping staff was quite pleasant and asked for a time to return to the room if you were still in it. I had the same maid for the week and tipped her $10...she folded my clothes and lined up my shoes....my mother did that for me!!!
C-Lounge was great....free booze!! My first at a C-Lounge and a wide array of foods/ hors' d'ouevres. Sparkling and bottled (glass) all around with starbucks as the coffee selections. The C-Lounge is rather large and plenty of seating in two different rooms.
I did not use the SPA services so I cannot offer a critique of that but the prices were rather high for your normal 1 hour massage or 30 minute. Pool and hot tub were adequate with a steam room in the locker rooms. Gym facilities are quite lacking. Please note that the hotel sells memberships to the health club in the hotel to the general public.
Overall, I was happy with my stay and would definitely stay here again. Great restaurants in downtown Stamford all within walking distance. Stamford Town Center is available for the ladies to shop but they are quite lacking. Renovations are under way to expand the mall area.
