This has indeed turned into a nightmare. I have a group of people flying into BCN for the weekend and more than a couple on AF. One, lucklily, was able to snag the last seat on Vueling and managed to arrive only 9 hours late (as an OT aside, VY's pricing algorithms must be working overtime...those seats are usually something like 30€, this guy paid over 400€). His alterative proposed by AF was to take a bus to ORY, then fly to MRS, then take an OK(?!) flight MRS-BCN.
Not so lucky is the guy who got to CDG at 1130 this morning. AF put him on a UX flight to Valencia and told him there would be a bus to bring him the four hours to Barcelona. After six hours of arguing with people in the airport, it was clear that there was no bus, neither had there ever been a bus. So the twenty AF pax due for BCN that were dumped in Valencia instead are now spending the night on the floor in the airport so they can take the 5AM train.
I know these things happen, and that as frequent travelers we should be both prepared for them and able to work out a plan B. It really seems in this case like AF is not even trying. Just put them on a flight to anywhere and tell them a bus is coming! They're earning a lot of badwill over how they handle the situation. And we have more days to come.
