FYI, discount coupons are probably available in Europe too. You just have to ask for them.
I've accumulated mine through either issues with my rentals (filing a complaint on-line) or by requesting a discount for a personal rental, as Avis gets 100% of my business rentals (about 30 so far this year). They often have promos where you can get a voucher for a free weekend rental if you rent for 5 days, but my rentals are never more than 2. So I got the idea to just call them and ask for something to reward my loyalty. And they are always happy to send me discount coupons.
BTW, since my coupons don't work on the AGP rental, I called Avis NA to see if they could give me a better price. They said no since it was a UK rental (booked on avis.co.uk per your suggestion). They suggested I call Avis UK, so I e-mailed them. They said it was unlikely they could help me as their discounts were for British citizens, but lo and behold, I just noticed my rate for a one week rental dropped from 92 UKL to 83 UKL, so another 10% discount!
Unlike many of the people on this forum, I've had nothing but excellent service from Avis, and am happy to use them.
The discount vouchers are good until Dec 2008, so I think I'll hang on to them a bit longer.
