That's what I tried to do in the first place but for some reason when his ticket got booked, the TA put hotel, rental car and all other stuff on the reservation information and the online upgrade system couldn't handle that itinerary.
When I called in, CSR mentioned that she was going to rearrange the entries in the reservation to make online upgrades work but it didn't work.
