cigarman: UA is, by far, NOT my favorite airline - but UA's Mileage Plus is one (out of a total of three) of my favorite Frequent Flyer programs - and StarAlliance is my favorite Alliance.

Whenever I have a reasonable (fare, connection, mileage- and statusmileage-promotion/earning, upgrade) comparing option on a (any other) StarPartner, that other StarPartner is my first carrier of choice.
