I stayed here last month as well as a few years ago.
As a Gold member, got into the renovated room without problems. The size of the room is exactly the same and the room is a little nicer. Instead of a small flat screen LCD on some sort of a rolling table, there is a large LCD on the dresser. The beds seem about the same but there's a nice thick comforter now. The biggest difference for me was the bathroom. The older rooms certainly let the hotel's age show and the shower head was clogged with hard water build up. The renovated washrooms are much nicer.
I noticed the lobby area (entire ground floor) has been renovated as well as the breakfast buffet/restaurant. It's a nicer setup and an internet station/cafe has been added. Gold/Diamond members indeed get complimentary breakfast buffet coupons. There definitely is no lounge.
Close enough to the airport with a decent shuttle schedule. You could easily take a taxi if you wanted without a huge expense.
