Another vote for CX. CX is using 747s on some days and other long haul aircrafts on the DPS sector. So you are not stuck in some regional C seat for 6 hours or longer.
If you really love (yes, can be painful) AA and their different understanding of service then you also could do LAX-NRT on AA and then NRT-HKG-DPS on CX, which would require an overnight in HKG
