Given that I often depart early in the morning and room service is available 30 minutes before the restaurant opens, I've taken advantage of that perk quite a few times.
I have stayed in both the Marriott Scottsdale Suites and The Renaissance Scottsdale Resort, which is just about three miles north on Scottsdale Road many times, and I love both hotels.
A little piece of trivia, Scottsdale Suites is owned by Richard Marriott's (Bill Marriott's younger brother) Company,
Host Hotels & Resorts
, which was Host Marriott Corporation (as Host formerly was known) and was formed in October 1993 when Marriott Corporation split its operations into two separate and distinct companies. Marriott Corporation became Host Marriott Corporation, which retained ownership of 24 full service hotels, 102 limited service hotels, 14 senior living communities and the Host Marriott Operating Group, an entity that provided food, beverage and merchandise in airports and toll roads. (Food, beverage, merchandise, and senior living were later split off into a third company.) The 1993 split also produced a separate company, Marriott International, Inc., which was formed to manage and operate various brands of Marriott hotels. This is the Marriott International that we all know and love today, the very one which administers our very own Marriott Rewards!
I am telling you this piece of trivia, because besides Scottsdale Suites being a beautiful hotel, it would probably be a bit embarrassing if they did not follow the rules and offer qualified elites breakfast due to not having a CL, don't you think?
Up the road, the Renaissance Scottsdale Resort is very different, and NOT owned by brother Richard's company. This hotel used to be called Cottonwoods Resort, and is an all "casita" type hotel, very similar to the nearby Camelback Inn, a JW Marriott Resort, though not quite as upscale. THe reason that I mention this hotel is that even though it is a "resort" property, they are very nice to Plats (I do not know if they extend this treatment to Golds), and offer complimentary breakfast in their MORIAH restaurant. Their breakfasts are not buffet style, but all cooked to order, and always excellent! Try the Brioche French Toast, it is out of this world delicious! Not only that, but if you are coming in from a different time zone and your sleeping is all screwy, and you want to wander in for a late breakfast, they will make you breakfast at almost any time you wish. Just write PLATINUM on the bill, and all will be taken care of (weekdays only). I have eaten breakfast there as late as 1 PM, and they have served me cheerfully! I recommend this hotel highly. Also, ask for their casitas with the private hot tubs on the fenced patios, this is the upgrade from their standard room, and the best room that they have in my opinion. There is a larger room, but the floorplan is a bit screwy.
Whichever hotel you choose, and both are highly recommendable, ENJOY!!
