Haven't stayed at this property yet but have gone down to the tidepools and hiked up to the lighthouse on a couple of visits to Crescent City.

Fog, hence the foghorn you heard, and rain are inherent to this part of the coast but you can get some really beautiful days between storms in the fall and winter.
